Watch and listen: Tim Minchin’s new Christmas song, “White Wine in the Sun”

If you're a fan of Tim Minchin, then all I need to tell you is that he wrote and performed a new Christmas song for you (and your family) to enjoy. Well, new to YouTube, anyhow (as I've been informed!). If you don't know who Tim Minchin is, then read up on him, before and after listening. Here it is, Tim Minchin, "White Wine in the Sun." Don't worry. It's not one of his raunchy ditties. It's a pretty ballad. I really like Christmas, too. Thanks,...

Are iTunes top comedy albums of 2009 on your list?

The only thing people love making more than year-end list are decade-end lists, and some of them seem as much about generating page-views as they are about subjectively ranking things that should not be ranked. That's rank! So where are my lists? I've got something else up my sleeves for this December, but in the meantime, I thought I'd share with you the iTunes list of their choices of the 20 best comedy discs from 2009, along with my thoughts on said list. For one thing, it's really across the board. Any list that puts Brent Weinbach side-by-side with Katt Williams is looking to appeal to all sorts. I have listened to and reviewed eight of the iTunes 20; most of the rest are waiting in my queue, and a few I don't even have my hands on just yet? My loss or yours? Also, iTunes missed some great ones from the past year. No John Mulaney? I haven't heard Paul F. Tompkins new disc yet, but would presume it's worthy. And no ladies on...

Ricky Gervais gets the “60 Minutes” treatment

Everyone not on the West Coast may have missed the 60 Minutes profile of Ricky Gervais last night due to late-running football (unless you already were tuned into CBS on Sunday), so here is that, plus some extras from the man who brought us Extras. I could do without Lesley Stahl's pop psychology babble — telling us matter-of-factly that all comedians are dark and angry. Doesn't everyone have a dark and angry memory or part to their personality? Or is everyone on the planet an angel, except for those darned comics? She also gets one thing very wrong: Yes, Gervais became famous off of The Office, which debuted on BBC Two in 2001, but he already had been known in Britain a couple of years earlier with regular YV appearances. It's still a nice thing to say to "late bloomers" because making it big at 40, or even 38, is still comforting (especially to the person writing this right now). Ahem. Anyhow. Roll the clips! And here are some extras, as promised. You'll see why it's an extra. It's Ricky Gervais visiting the 60 Minutes...
