Mr Chonkers at Edinburgh Fringe 2022

**** (out of 5)

This is unlike any clown show I’ve ever seen.

Because it’s not exactly clowning. More like buffoonery. There’s a whole lotta buffoonery going on in the small cavern above a meat restaurant on Cowgate after midnight.

I still don’t know exactly who or what Mr. Chonkers is, but Mr. Chonkers presents us eventually with an industry showcase for one John Norris, who in turn, promises audiences a bit of comedy, a bit of poetry, a bit of theater, and a magic trick. The comedy is top notch, even sillier the night I attended once the comedian noticed that two of the audience members already had attended one of his previous Fringe performances. But of course, he’d have repeat attendees. His is the type of show you might want to revisit just to see how or if he’ll mix it up or get mixed up himself in the process. Either way, Norris is not DiGiorno. He delivers. Si papi.

Mr Chonkers runs through Aug. 28, 2022, at Monkey Barrel Comedy (Carnivore).
