Netflix Announces Season 3 of The Standups

Netflix is getting back into the business of producing half-hour comedy specials.

Today the streaming giant announced the six-pack of stand-up comedians who’ll tape their half-hours for season three of The Standups. This new season will tape before live audiences in New York City this summer, and premiere on Netflix later in 2021.

So who gets ’em?

  • Brian Simpson, Dusty Slay, Janelle James, Mark Normand, Melissa Villaseñor, and Naomi Ekperigin.

CONGRATS!.

The half-hours will film Aug. 4-5, 2021, at The Edison Ballroom at the north end of Times Square in midtown Manhattan. Get your free tickets via The BlackList. (Please note you must have proof of vaccination to attend the shows)

Villaseñor you know and love as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, who before that wowed the judges with her celebrity impersonations on America’s Got Talent. James previously performed on Netflix’s The Comedy Lineup in 2018, which offered stand-ups 15-minute showcase sets, and currently co-stars on Showtime’s Black Monday as well as the upcoming ABC sitcom, Abbott Elementary. Normand has put out two hours already, the first via Comedy Central; the second, last year via YouTube. Ekperigin appears on Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest, and previously put out a Comedy Central half-hour in 2016. Simpson made his TV debut in 2019 on Comedy Central’s Lights Out with David Spade. And Slay was one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2019.

  1. Mark and Dusty are in my top 10 comics. I’m glad they are getting some Netflix time. This is how Nate Bargatze blew up. Hope they do the same!
