Meet the Women Reading Your Jon Stewart Packets for Apple TV+

Remember a week ago when all of your funny friends were Tweeting about a “Jon Stewart packet”?

This is what they were talking about. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Stewart is moving forward, finally with his first TV project in the wake of leaving The Daily Show five years ago. After an aborted attempt to do current comedy digitally for HBO, Stewart plans on making a newsy comedy series on the regular for Apple TV+.

One of the writers Stewart had hired for HBO will now serve as his head writer for the still-untitled Apple TV+ show. It’s Chelsea Devantez, who reported today that she and Stewart and the crew are sifting through some 2400 blind submissions that came in last week. Devantez’s previous writing credits include Girls5EvaBless this Mess, Abby’s and The Opposition with Jordan Klepper.

Brinda Adhikari will serve as Stewart’s showrunner. Adhikari comes with a two-decade resume in investigative reporting, including a 2020 Edward R. Murrow Award for working on a CBS piece on mistreatment of migrant children in the United States. And Lorrie Baranek is Stewart’s executive in charge of production. Baranek has worked on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, The Break with Michelle Wolf, The President Show and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

No word on when the series will debut on Apple TV+, so stay tuned.
