by Dave Chappelle won two more Emmy Awards over the weekend for his 2019 Netflix special, Sticks & Stones.
Chappelle had previously won Emmys in 2018 for his Netflix special, Equanimity, and in 2017 for guest-acting when he hosted Saturday Night Live. His wins this year came for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. Stan Lathan, also won for directing Chappelle’s special. But as the comedian noted in his acceptance speech, he was denied the full sweep of the variety special category when his editor lost out to a segment from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Chappelle delivered his acceptance speech from the amphitheater he took over and created for himself and his comedy and musician friends this summer in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
In his speech, he managed to both tell critics of his comedy to shut the eff up forever since he won the Emmy, then comforting his colleagues who got nominated but lost that the Emmy doesn’t effing mean anything.
So it means everything and nothing. Congrats?
