EPIX Showcase Series “Unprotected Sets” Will Also Become A Podcast

In case you missed the stand-up showcase series Unprotected Sets when it aired on EPIX in 2018, don’t worry. You’ll soon also be able to enjoy it as a podcast.

The first episode debuted Aug. 5 via MGM and Audio Up, with Zainab Johnson.

Here’s how Audio Up describes the podcast:

What makes a comedian tick? Unprotected Sets is provocative series that takes an unfiltered look at stand-up through the eyes of the funniest working comedians from across the country – and now available as a podcast! Unlike any other stand up series or special, the show will present compelling portraits of emerging comedians as they work the comedy circuit. Meet each comedian and hear intimate interviews, chronicling how they turned their personal paths… into hysterical laughs. Their dynamic and hilarious performances – where nothing is off limits – will show us exactly how, in their own inimitable way, each comedian brings their life into the art.

The original EPIX series showcased Zainab Johnson, Raul Sanchez, Daniel Webb, Rocky Dale Davis, Mia Jackson, Rob Christensen, Becky Braunstein, Mohanad Elshieky, Paris Sashay, Shane Mauss, Jessa Reed, and Scout Durwood.

Unprotected Sets gives comedians a chance to perform their raciest and most revealing material, intercut with raw and intimate interviews.  The combination gives insight into how their diverse childhoods shaped their humor,” said Barry Poznick, MGM’s President of Unscripted & Alternative Television and Orion Television. “This format is perfect for podcast fans. It’s fast, funny and full of surprises.”

“This is an innovation for the world of standup and for comedy. We look forward to a day when the comedy clubs and the vibrant world around it comes back; however, in the meantime, this unique way of delivering comedy alongside amazing stories is going to be a great way for people to get their LOL’s in,” added Audio Up founder and CEO, Jared Gutstadt. “We’re thrilled to be working with the next generation of comedians alongside our partners at Epix and MGM. We hope that this becomes a great discovery tool for these voices, who will find new fans utilizing the world of podcast.”
