ABC is mounting a live TV rendition of Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein, the musical

ABC has announced it will debut its latest live musical event this fall with “Young Frankenstein Live!” produced by the legendary director, writer, actor, comedian, producer and composer, Mel Brooks.

The network recently saw its hybrid live/animated production of The Little Mermaid top the ratings over the winter.

Young Frankenstein Live! won’t be based on the classic 1974 film starring and co-written by Gene Wilder, but rather the 2007 Broadway musical version. The original Broadway cast included Roger Bart as Frankenstein, Megan Mullally as Elizabeth, Christopher Fitzgerald as Igor, Sutton Foster as Inga, Andrea Martin as Frau Blucher, Shuler Hensley as The Monster, and Fred Applegate as Inspector Kemp.

No word on casting for the fall 2020 live TV production.

  1. This is going to be based on the 2007 musical instead of the 2019 version ran in London?!

    How could Mel want that?!?!

  2. When will the show air on tv?, was it cancelled because of corona virus or is it still happening, I am so excited for the show !!!!

    1. Great question! I’d presume it’s not cancelled but on hold until they can figure out production in the new abnormal…
