Jerry Seinfeld mocks other shows that interview celebs in cars as copycats, before being reminded he wasn’t first to do it, either

Promoting his new season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, star/creator Jerry Seinfeld decided to tease others who have produced and made their own series that take place inside automobiles.

Except, of course, Seinfeld wasn’t first to think of filming funny people in cars, either.

Even if you dismiss the lawsuit against Seinfeld by his own Comedian director, claiming he was the originator of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee!

Seinfeld apologized to Robert Llewellyn, the British comedian who hosted the web series and TV show, Carpool. Llewellyn’s series has more than 100 episodes and debuted in 2009. Seinfeld’s series didn’t premiere until 2012 on Crackle.

Here’s Llewellyn with Stephen Fry in 2010.

Llewellyn accepted Seinfeld’s apology.

I can think of other examples of comedians in cars with cameras filming them pre-dating Seinfeld’s series. Here’s Whitney Cummings winning Last Comic Driving, a series within the NBC competition Last Comic Standing, which aired back in 2008.

  1. It’s fair to list the ones that pre-dated him. Guessing he wasn’t watching Last Comic Standing in 2008. But, all of the ones JS called out in his teaser, came to market as a result of his influence with CICGC.Thanks – Jerry Seinfeld
