NBC putting Kenan Thompson in primetime with The Kenan Show

Happy Birthday to Kenan Thompson! Thompson, 41 today and the longest-tenured cast member ever on Saturday Night Live, will add a primetime sitcom to his resume. NBC has ordered The Kenan Show. He began his TV career as a teenager with Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series, All That. Thompson joined SNL in 2003. Sixteen seasons later, he now has won an Emmy, and is currently filming a comedy competition series, Bring the Funny, premiering this summer on NBC. Comedy Central launches Productions unit with full slate of development deals

Determined to learn from past mistakes, Comedy Central has launched a new Comedy Central Productions unit to develop new and existing in-house talent. As Jon Stewart departed The Daily Show, the cable network watched as many of his potential successors also fled, from John Oliver (HBO), Stephen Colbert (CBS), Samantha Bee and Jason Jones (TBS), Michelle Wolf (HBO, then Netflix), Hasan Minhaj (Netflix).
