“Mad About You” revival is a go, but for Spectrum cable

Another Must-See-TV NBC hit sitcom from the 1990s is making a comeback, but Mad About You‘s revival isn’t happening on NBC.

Instead, the reunion of Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt will show up on Spectrum Originals. What’s that, you may ask if you don’t live somewhere that has Spectrum (aka the old Time Warner Cable)? And now I’ve already helped answer your question.

The stars already had closed deals last year with Sony Pictures TV to revive the sitcom, which ended a seven-season run on NBC in 1999. The revival picks up 20 years later, in reality and in the show’s universe, late 2019 as the couple remains married and trying to figure it out along with their now-adult daughter Mabel.

Peter Tolan will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer of the show, which Comedy Dynamics will produce with Sony. Co-creator Danny Jacobson will be an executive consultant.

“We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have Peter Tolan as our fearless captain,” said Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt in a joint statement. “We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show – as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!”

The show has been a “labor of love for all involved, and we think audiences will relish the next chapter in these wonderful characters’ lives,” said SPT president Jeff Frost and SPT co-presidents Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter. Hunt and Reiser are executive producers with Brian Volk-Weiss, Michael Pelmont, and Matthew Ochacher for Comedy Dynamics.
