Amazon finally gets into the original stand-up comedy special business, starting with Jim Gaffigan

Amazon announced today it will launch Jim Gaffigan’s seventh stand-up special, Quality Time, as its first original stand-up comedy special for Prime Video, to premiere later in 2019.  Gaffigan is up for a Grammy for last year’s special, Noble Ape, which premiered everywhere but Netflix. Quality Time will be recorded live at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN on March 9, 2019.  Quality Time is directed by Jeannie Gaffigan, and executive produced by Brian Volk-Weiss & Cisco Henson (of Comedy Dynamics) with Alex Murray (Brillstein Entertainment Partners). National Comedy Center acquires Ernie Kovacs archives

Ernie Kovacs would have turned 100 yesterday (the comedy legend died in 1962 at the age of 42), and to celebrate, The National Comedy Center announced the acquisition and display of never-before-seen material and rare artifacts courtesy of the comedian’s estate. The collection includes notes and sketches in Kovacs’ own hand, annotated scripts, candid backstage photography, screen-used props and wardrobe, personal effects, and rare production documents that chronicle the career of “Television’s Original Genius,” as well as the history of the early television industry. “The Ernie Kovacs Centennial Exhibit” will debut in August 2019, during the National Comedy Center’s...

Lucas Bros. show transformed into impromptu memorial fundraiser for the late Kevin Barnett: The Bird Luger Extravaganza

This Friday night’s show by The Lucas Brothers at The Bell House in Brooklyn now will be an all-star tribute and fundraiser for the late Kevin Barnett. Barnett died suddenly this week while vacationing in Mexico. He was only 32. Barnett co-starred and co-wrote Friends of The People with The Lucas Brothers, Jermaine Fowler, Lil Rel, Jen Bartels and Josh Rabinowitz for truTV. He also wrote for The Lucas Brothers animated series, and with Rabinowitz co-created Rel, which premiered this fall on FOX.
