NBC announces Late Night Writers Workshop class of 2018

Congrats to the comedians and funny writers named today to NBC’s Late Night Writers Workshop, an annual program “focused on exposing talented sketch and comedy writers to NBCUniversal’s late night & alternative line-up and readying them for a staff writer position.” Alumni include Chelsea Davison (“The Opposition with Jordan Klepper”), Jenny Hagel (“Late Night with Seth Meyers” who also appears onscreen in the “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell” segment), Kate Sidley (“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”), Nedaa Sweiss (“The Late Late Show with James Corden”) and Will Storey (“The Opposition with Jordan Klepper”). Pence parody book has a happy ending

When John Oliver’s announced his staff at HBO’s Last Week Tonight had made a parody of a children’s book about Vice President Mike Pence’s family rabbit, making the rabbit’s story about gay marriage instead, Oliver didn’t expect it’d actually sell as well as it did. “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” shot to the top of Amazon’s best-seller list. “At that point, it’s getting ridiculous,” Oliver told Seth Meyers on Tuesday. R.I.P. Tim Jones

Tim Jones, a regular at The Comedy Store throughout the 1980s comedy boom and into the 1990s, has died. Jones, a native New Yorker, headed west to Hollywood like many comedians in the 1970s. On the East Coast, he’d been a news writer for a local NBC station. “I wanted to be a network reporter you know, frontline reporting in the war zone and all that stuff.
