Remembering Matt Villines, half of comedy directing duo Matt & Oz

Matt Villines died in July after a two-year battle with kidney cancer. Villines was only 39, still approaching the heights of his career as a comedy director. As half of the directing duo, Matt & Oz, he was responsible for many of your favorite short films that have aired on Saturday Night Live since 2012, made even more hilarious shorts for Funny or Die, and marked his big-screen directorial debut with Brother Nature, which just released its first trailer on Thursday (starring SNL cast members Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan, with Gillian Jacobs and more, it comes out Sept. 9...

Anniversary of Lucille Ball’s birthday greeted with new statue, all-star comedy fest and prep for a national comedy museum in her New York hometown

Lucille Ball would have turned 105 today. To celebrate, Ball’s hometown of Celeron, N.Y., unveiled a brand-new statue of the iconic TV comedy legend today — sculpted by Carolyn D. Normand himself teased the performance by saying on Twitter earlier Friday: “It’s a dicey set.” CBS censors did allow Normand to joke about the differences between how we use the word “douchebag” vs. the actual item, how women’s looks...

Review: David Cross, “Making America Great Again!” (Netflix)

David Cross has been mocking Trump both in his material and in the title of his stand-up comedy tour throughout 2016, but he couldn’t have picked a better time to release his tour performance as a Netflix special than now. If it weren’t for all of the profanity and the button-pushing when it comes to guns and religion, you almost could have imagined Cross delivering Making America Great Again! as a speech at last week’s Democratic National Convention. Then again, perhaps that’s for the best. As I noted in my review of David Cross: Making America Great Again! for...
