Funny or Die lays off 37, shutters Silicon Valley engineering office

Just a few days after throwing its annual bash in Montreal for the comedy industry gathered at Just For Laughs, Funny or Die announced today it’d lay off 37 jobs — 30 percent of its workforce — and close the office in San Mateo, Calif., where the comedy company’s engineers worked. Louis CK performing surprise show to benefit Acme Comedy Co. in Minneapolis

This just in: Louis CK is making an unscheduled extra stop on his stand-up tour in Minneapolis tonight. As Acme Comedy Co. told fans in an email this afternoon: “Louis CK heard about the recent struggles with the construction around Acme Comedy Co. and wanted to help out. He reached out and tonight at 10pm there is a surprise show with 100% of the ticket sales going to the club.” And just like that, it’s reportedly sold out. Drew Hastings faces court trial in allegations he committed felonies as mayor of Hillsboro, Ohio

Drew Hastings, the stand-up comedian with two decades of performing experience who’s serving his second four-year term as the mayor of Hillsboro, Ohio, will stand trial this fall on felony allegations including election falsification, theft, theft in office and tampering with records. Hastings entered not guilty pleas Monday at his arraignment in court. The judge also entered a pre-trial publicity order instructing everyone involved in the case to avoid commenting to the media directly or indirectly via social media.
