Just one day into the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, new streaming upstart Seeso has made waves by acquiring worldwide distribution rights to the documentary, The Pistol Shrimps, to become the platform’s first direct-to-Seeso movie. The Pistol Shrimps has its world premiere today at Tribeca. The doc, directed by Brent Hodge (I Am Chris Farley) and executive produced by Morgan Spurlock, follows the 2015 season of the women’s basketball team of the same name that’s made up of comedians, actors and models in Los Angeles. Netflix will continue rolling out at least one major stand-up comedy special per month through the summer of 2016, announcing the latest additions to their slate. They include new hours from Netflix faves such as Jim Jefferies and Iliza Shlesinger, a team-up by Blue Collar all-stars Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy, Ali Wong’s first hour special (filmed while seven months pregnant), and a new hour from Bo Burnham.
