Jon Stewart announces he’ll stop hosting The Daily Show after Aug. 6, 2015

Mark your calendars: Aug. 6, 2015, will end Jon Stewart’s mighty reign as host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

Stewart announced his final date at the close of Monday’s episode. Roll the clip!

Stewart had told Catie Lazarus two months ago that he wanted to leave the show while he still was at the top of his game and while his children were still young enough to appreciate him as a father.

In a new interview published in The Guardian over the weekend, Stewart elaborated on that, saying: “Honestly, it was a combination of the limitations of my brain and a format that is geared towards following an increasingly redundant process, which is our political process. I was just thinking, ‘Are there other ways to skin this cat?’ And, beyond that, it would be nice to be home when my little elves get home from school, occasionally.”

And as Stewart promised in the clip above, you can enter/bid for your chance to join him as an audience member at his final taping via Omaze, with proceeds going toward Night of Too Many Stars and its related autism programs.

You have 40 days to place your bids, and 50 shows left to watch Stewart on your Comedy Central dials.

The show usually takes a summer hiatus in August anyhow. Only this time, upon its return after Labor Day, it’ll be with Trevor Noah at the helm.
