After making a couple of appearances on the Weekend Update desk already in 2014 and cameos in two other sketches this season, Leslie Jones earned herself an upgrade! Saturday Night Live announced tonight that Jones had been promoted from writer to featured player in the cast. Congrats, Leslie! It's official I'm a cast member!!! Get ready! Get ready!! @nbcsnl — Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) October 20, 2014 Jones joined SNL in January as a writer as show creator Lorne Michaels looked to diffuse criticism that his cast and writing staffs lacked diversity, specifically among black women. Lenny Marcus on Late Show with David Letterman

Lenny Marcus performed Friday night for his third time as a stand-up comedian on Late Show with David Letterman, and the third time actually is charming if you watched the portion of the show before Marcus appeared onstage. As soon as Marcus switches gears in this set to mock vegans, the audience immediately reacts. That’s because actress Jessica Chastain had been teaching Letterman all about her vegan lifestyle. Co-host Lisa Hanawalt grew up watching good flicks with her older brother and is shaken by Emily’s admission. “It’s such a bad feeling that I have right now.”...

Jay Leno is the Richard Nixon of comedy

Jay Leno struck this pose Sunday night while accepting the 2014 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In doing so, Leno evoked the classic imagery of former President Richard M. Nixon, flashing the double V-for-Victory peace signs and declaring “I am not a crook.” Joke pose or not, considering Leno’s own career ambitions and how he coveted a prestigious post so much that it tainted his reputation, will he go down in history as the Richard Nixon of comedy?...
