UCB confirms opening date for Los Angeles training center, fourth theater

The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre recently opened a brand-new training center in New York City, and they’re about to open their first legitimate training center in Los Angeles, too, which also will include an 85-seat cafe theater — the UCB’s fourth performance space. UCB Theatre Sunset, 5419 W. Sunset Blvd., will begin offering classes in November and launch with a Nov. 1 grand opening show that will include appearances and/or performances by many UCB actors — among them the “UCB Four” co-founders of Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Matt Walsh and Ian Roberts. Christmas is coming early this year, and it hasn’t even arrived just yet. We learned today, first via Variety, that Bill Murray — who has sung on Saturday Night Live and in various movie and TV appearances over the past few decades (including his newest film, St. Vincent, wherein he sings “Shelter From the Storm” over the closing credits) — will star in and sing classic Christmas carols for an upcoming holiday TV special directed by Sofia Coppola, who also directed Murray in his Oscar-nominated performance for Lost in Translation. “It’s not going to be live,” Murray told Variety....

Denver-based comedian Andrew Orvedahl made his debut Monday on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and let’s just say it’s more significant than a pre-school graduation. Orvedahl would go much further than that. Both in life and in this routine. Fun fact: Andrew is one-third of The Grawlix, a Denver comedy group who sold their sitcom pilot Those Who Can’t to Amazon Studios in 2012, and aired online in 2013.
