NBC’s reboot of Last Comic Standing debuts Thursday with a two-hour premiere and the promise of mentors for the top 10 finalists picked from the 100 invited stand-up comedian contestants. Wanda Sykes, one of the Last Comic executive producers, will show up on camera as one of the mentors for the finalists. Joining Sykes? None other than Howie Mandel, who’s also a long-running judge on NBC’s other summer talent competition — America’s Got Talent — plus past Last Comic finalist Amy Schumer, Cheryl Hines and Jeff Ross. Comedy wins none of the 2014 Billboard Music Awards but all of the focus of this week’s magazine issue

You probably heard about, if you didn’t also already see, the hologram of the late Michael Jackson performing at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, televised live to an audience of millions. The Billboard Music Awards are perhaps the least surprising awards of all in “Awards Season,” as each of the 39 winners knew they’d won, their victories determined from the year-end Billboard chart rankings from sales and downloads. My Pod Week: Week ending 5/18/14

Mike Flinn (@realmikeflinn) isn’t just a podcast producer and engineer; he’s also an avid fan of the form. “My Pod Week” recaps and reviews the many varied comedy podcasts Flinn listened to or attended live tapings of during the previous week. Enjoy! THE DANA GOULD HOUR (Episode: “Heavy Duty“) I’ve enjoyed Dana Gould’s podcast ever since its 2012 debut. Episodes are released about once a month and have gotten much longer than an hour. The show is well crafted and designed like an arctic ice breaker, unsinkable. Dana greets the listener with an intro and then rotates between two sets...
