First look: FOX’s only new sitcom for Fall 2014, “Mulaney” (plus descriptions of three other comedies for midseason in 2015)

FOX is not going to let animation dominate Sunday nights any longer in 2014. Sure, there will be three looney toons on the night this fall — Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons and Family Guy. But they’ll be separated by the reigning Golden Globe winner in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as well as by the lone pilot to get a fall order this year by FOX — John Mulaney’s Mulaney. That said, as part of Monday’s Upfronts presentation to advertisers, the network had plenty of new cast photos and information to share, not just about Mulaney, but also about three new sitcoms...

Sara Schaefer relives every comedian’s early nightmares and daydreams in “Day Job”

Sara Schaefer may no longer host an MTV late-night talk show, nor may she even live in New York City still. Nevertheless, now we can see her next project whenever we want. With the debut of The Pete Holmes Show on TBS, I half-expected You Made It Weird to fade away and...

First look: NBC’s new sitcoms in primetime, Fall 2014 (Bad Judge, Marry Me, A To Z)

NBC revealed its new primetime schedule for Fall 2014 in advance of today’s Upfront presentation to advertisers. Parks and Recreation will return in midseason for its seventh and final season. Community will not return for a sixth season (on NBC), and the other rookie sitcoms from the Peacock Network all lost their feathers and cooked their geese and a third metaphor for not coming back. Four other new sitcoms ordered have no place yet on the programming schedule: Mission Control (starring Krysten Ritter as a NASA engineer in the 1960s, and from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay); Mr. Robinson...
