Patton Oswalt’s first paid acting gig, at 19, in a college loan video

JC Shakespeare is one of a few young comedians who appeared in an infomercial about college loans in 1990, and 23 years later, he uploaded the video to YouTube today. Shakespeare writes in the description: “This was my first paid gig as an actor, and perhaps it was for Patton as well. Patton had the tenacity and persistence to work his butt off (I didn’t), and I have immense respect for how far his talent and hard work have taken him.” Patton Oswalt confirmed what we all see to be true. That was him. Oswalt told his Twitter followers...

Gaffigan dreamed up a future in which a ham sandwich becomes a breakfast sandwich by replacing the bun with two doughnuts. Punchline, then tagged with “You guys laugh, but you know there’s someone at Dunkin Donuts going, ‘That’s not a bad idea.'” That was recorded in 2004, released on CD/DVD in 2006. Cut to present-day 2013. Dunkin Donuts has introduced the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich....

Kevin Downey Jr.’s audition for America’s Got Talent

The editing on NBC’s America’s Got Talent is slicker than usual this season. And it’s perhaps even more pronounced for comedians. Take Kevin Downey Jr., for example. Downey advanced to the Las Vegas rounds out of his audition, but we only see him for a minute, only hear him tell one actual joke. There’s none of the set-up yet to introduce him, or to allow for the pauses and cold open forced upon comedians performing on the AGT stage. After we see Downey’s one joke, a succession of quick cuts, followed by Howie Mandel telling us who Downey reminds...
