Chevy Chase reprises Griswold’s Christmas “Vacation” for Old Navy

Chevy Chase may think he’s too good for network TV sitcom work, but he won’t turn down a paycheck when it comes to reprising an old movie character in a Christmas TV ad campaign.

He began reappearing as Clark Griswold on your television screens last night in the 2012 holiday commercials for Old Navy. It’s not quite National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation all over again — who are those kids supposed to be, and is that really Beverly D’Angelo in the intentionally blurry background?

This isn’t the first time Chase (and D’Angelo) reprised their roles as the Griswolds for the sake of advertising paydirt. They did a Super Bowl ad in 2010, too.

Roll this clip!

Now, if you want to see this Old Navy clip, sans Chevy, but en Espanol, si si!

  1. Chevy was great in this spot! Beverly looks incredible! This was a wonderful idea. What a nice surprise!!

  2. It’s funny. This article snipes about Chevy Chase thinking he’s too good for network TV (even though he’s been doing it for years), but not for commercials, and two others I just read gripe about Johnny Galecki thinking he’s too good for commercials, but not for network TV. It’s very possible he just wasn’t able to make it due to scheduling or whatever. And maybe CC had enough foresight to throw a lifeboat over the side of the basically sunken ship named ‘Community’.
