Louis CK pulls out of Radio and Television Correspondents gig, avoids political brouhaha

While it was surprising to hear the Radio and Television Correspondents Association had selected Louis CK to host their annual dinner this upcoming June in Washington, D.C., it’s no surprise at all that the comedian — who maintains he’s not very political at all — abruptly withdrew his name from the gig today after FOX News anchor/talking head Greta Van Susteren began making public calls for her colleagues to boycott the dinner altogether. All because Louis CK doesn’t like Sarah Palin and is willing to say so (and jokingly so) in very crude language. First, though, just to clarify....

Gallery1988 exhibits “Is This Thing On? 2: The Weird Year” in L.A.

Gallery1988 in Hollywood and Funny or Die received so much successful attention and plaudits for last year’s comedy art exhibition, “Is This Thing On?,” that they’re debuting the sequel tonight. “Is This Thing On? 2: The Weird Year” runs from March 9-31, 2012, and there’s nothing weird about the fact that Weird Al Yankovic is hosting the launch party tonight at the gallery on Melrose. Adult Swim has posted the full pilot for Bob Odenkirk’s latest creation, Let’s Do This!, which stars Odenkirk as owner of a small-time movie studio that operates out of a strip mall in North Hollywood (which is a world away from the northern part of Hollywood). In “Harry Podder and the Lost Lebaron,” Cal Goldberg (Odenkirk) deals with an African warlord, his ex-wife (Natasha Leggero), and his bumbling employees, who include Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus and Paul Rust. A press release calls this a “solo” episode. Maybe if you fall in love with it enough, it’ll be the one...

Mike Lawrence’s late-night TV debut on Conan

Mike Lawrence made his late-night TV debut last night on Conan, and if you haven’t seen him live before, then you’re really in for a treat. Sure, this Floridian who now lives in New York City has plenty of jokes about the big city. But he also has a way of making topical Jeremy Lin joke that manage to provide nerdy pop-cultural references and social commentary. Lawrence also has bits about Yo Mama jokes, self-deprecation about his childhood, and a closer about seeing live improv comedy. Roll the...
