R.I.P. Jimmy Kimmel’s “Uncle Frank” Potenza

Sad news to report, as Jimmy Kimmel’s real-life “Uncle Frank” Potenza, a former NYPD officer and security guard who worked on camera on Kimmel’s ABC talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, died today. He was 77. Information about a memorial service is forthcoming. Kimmel’s TV show already had just begun a two-week hiatus, not due back on the air until Sept. 6, 2011, the Tuesday after Labor Day. A message sent out to staff and crew today informed them that “Uncle Frank” passed in the early morning hours Tuesday at Cedars Sinai Hospital “surrounded by his loving family,” adding: “His...

Mathews is looking a potentially big upgrade in the next year. The Hollywood Reporter reported this morning that E! had signed Mathews to a talent deal with promises to develop his own talk-show pilot — just as Handler allowed Mathews to...

David Letterman responds to jihad threat with jokes, jokes, more jokes

In his first show back on the air since a Muslim extremist sympathetic to Al-Qaeda called for jihad and threatened to cut off his tongue, David Letterman used his sharp tongue to make jokes both at his expense as well as the terrorists, unleashing a monologue and a Top 10 about it on last night’s Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman opened his monologue by thanking his audience for serving as his “human shield,” before finding a way to tie the threat back to Jay Leno, then making several jokes about the death of Osama bin Laden, and turning...
