Kumail Nanjiani joins TBS hourlong comedy pilot “Franklin & Bash”

Congratulations to rising stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani, who got cast today in the TBS hourlong comedy pilot, Franklin & Bash. "I play a nerdy hyper intelligent lawyer who is an extreme germophobe," Nanjiani told me today. "So far, I got the nerd part down." TBS lifted the contingency on the project earlier this month by tapping Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer as the titular leads for the hourlong comedy, in which they'll play lifelong friends and street lawyers who, after a high-profile case, get recruited by the firm they defeated. If the show gets picked up (and the chances are much greater with TBS), this also means Nanjiani is one step closer to an ultimate comeback for John Mayer. As Nanjiani has recounted to various comedy club audiences in the months since his awkward on-stage encounter with Mayer, he had joked to the rock/blues guitarist at one point: "I said, US Weekly doesn't take pictures of me, and he said, 'And they never will.'" Background references: Kumail Nanjiani talked to me about his busy year on the rise in 2009, and John Mayer talked to me about his awkward...

Jimmy Fallon as Barry Gibb, and also singing with two of the Bee Gees. Imitation meets flattery.

Last night's edition of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon saw two of the Bee Gees, Robin and Barry Gibb, confront the comedian who had lampooned them with help from Justin Timberlake on multiple episodes of Saturday Night Live. Well, "confront" and "lampooned" are strong words, because the brothers Gibb were flattered by it all. Or should I say flattened? How about Robin Gibb with all of the one-liners, FTW. And Fallon couldn't have seemed more pleased for the opportunity to harmonize with the brothers. Just make sure to hit those harmonies, right, Jimmy? Roll it. ( version) And here is a classic SNL edition of The Barry Gibb Talk Show sketch. This one's from #32.9, Dec. 16, 2006 (

I don't know if you're drunk or not, because it is late on a St. Patrick's Day, but if you're sober, you may want to get a wee bit tipsy before watching this new video, and definitely afterward. It features Chris Cain from the band We Are Scientists and comedian Ilana Glazer as Trans Am, American Apparel's first model who includes all of her original parts, as well as his parts. Him parts. He/she parts? I don't know how gender labels work. But I do know that you'll probably watch this video more than once. May be slightly Not Safe For Work. Roll it! (Also available in Funny or Die...
