Porn stars in mainstream comedies

That saying about things happening in threes has gotten a bit of an X-rated revamp over the weekend, as a threesome of images popped up on my Internets involving porn star actresses in mainstream comedies. To be sure, a few of the men and women who have had sex in pornographic films (or even simulated intercourse in softcore Skinemax flicks) already have managed to graduate and upgrade their careers to network, basic cable and Hollywood big studio movies. Traci Lords and Ron Jeremy come to mind first, so to speak. HBO's Entourage has cast a bevy of porn beauties in previous seasons. Boogie Nights was about the porn world of the late 1970s, and as such, included some adult stars, but that played it heavy (despite some comical scenes).

This is different. Starting with 2007's Superbad, and continuing with last year's Zack and Miri Make a Porno, we're seeing more broad comedies with roles for porn actresses. And now there's news of another new big-budget comedy movie about porn, this time starring Christina Ricci. It's called "Born to be a Star," with Adam Sandler as a co-writer, and Nick Swardson as a co-producer, about a small-town nerd from the Midwest who discovers his parents were 1970s porn stars and decides to go to Hollywood to get into the family business. But who will play the nerd? Swardson? Perhaps Ricci's fiance, and Swardson's buddy, Owen Benjamin?!?

I guess I should not be too surprised, considering how the pornography world often has turned to stand-up comedians to host their annual awards show in Vegas, and how often I saw the porn stars of Scottsdale (Jenna Jameson and her girls) enjoying live stand-up comedy at the Tempe Improv when I lived in Arizona.

But back to my trilogy of porn comedy news items. Jenna Haze, who had a cameo in Superbad, filmed a documentary DVD featurette with Aziz Ansari about his "Randy" character for the upcoming Judd Apatow film, Funny People. So there's that to look forward to.

The HBO/Funny or Die miniseries with Rob Riggle and Paul Scheer, Designated Driver, apparently includes a role for Angelina Armani.

And here is the first official movie trailer for How to Make Love to a Woman, which stars Krysten Ritter, Josh Meyers (MADtv, brother of SNL's Seth) and Ian Somerhalder, but also features comedians Kirk Fox, MADtv's Ike Barinholtz and Apatowite Ken Jeong, as well as porn queen Jenna Jameson.

  1. and I met Audrey Bitoni on a plane from NYC to LA a couple weeks ago.
She was sitting in coach, which was nice, because I was, too.
She just attended a Britney Spears concert, which scared – but did not surprise – me.
I told her I was “a big fan of her work,” and she should “keep it up,” and we went our separate ways.
    C listers unite!

  2. I also used to live in Phoenix and, once in a while, would see Ms Jameson out and about.
I saw her once at the Scottsdale Fashion Square (a mall) and it was…ghastly. She was dressed exactly like a Las Vegas hooker with, I shit you not, clear high heeled shoes. She has tanned so much, her skin looks like it would stop a knife. Only, I guess not, because she has had so much plastic surgery, she doesn’t look quite human any more.
    I literally shuddered.
Oh, and she was holding the hand of a little girl, maybe 5. The girl had a build-a-bear box. On the visual alone, child services should have sent in a SWAT team.

  3. Porn stars are just porn performers who are prostitutes who get paid to have sex with whoever they are told to have sex with so let us not glamorize them. They are no different than hookers, they do the same thing.
As for their acting potential, Pleeasse, have you all seen that last Jenna Jameson movie, they should just stick to what they know best and that is spreading their legs and getting non their knees and showing their other skills.

  4. Sasha Grey has a leading role in Steven Soderberg’s The Girlfriend Experience coming out this year. That sure as hell beats any cameo role in a comedy.

  5. Jenna Haze’s “Cameo” in Superbad was as a porn star on a website (Vagtastic Voyage) that the guys in the movie visit. So, not too much of a difference there…

  6. It’s called sex. The fact that leadership requires one be a hypocrite when it comes to sexual experession should not be confused with what kind of monkey we humans really are.
An objective view of human sexual behavior shows that we are all unique in what we find acceptible, even though some people are so deluded they believe they’re divinely placed in the world to instuct others as to the only way acceptible to the immaginary big monkey in the sky.
The sooner sexual expressions take their place along with the other subjects on human behavior that we can discuss without raising an eyebrow, the sooner we can figure out how to address the really bad stuff that happens to us, all to often at the hands of someone who has very unusual perspectives when it comes to sex and of course these people are typically deeply involved with their equally deranged spiritual drives. No coincidence there, I’m afraid…
