Live at Gotham, with host Daniel Tosh, Matt Braunger, Hannibal Buress, Owen Benjamin, Mary Mack, Nigel Lawrence, Adam Devine

Hey comedy fans, before you start weekends, know that Comedy Central has a new Live at Gotham to share with you tonight at 10 p.m. (also 3 a.m.), with host Daniel Tosh, Matt Braunger, Hannibal Buress, Owen Benjamin, Mary Mack, Nigel Lawrence and Adam Devine. The network also replays Tosh’s one-hour special beforehand at 9 p.m. This taping was the spring finale, and all of the lighting equipment was so fried that it forced Braunger to have to retell his opening bit several times. Here is a preview clip from him, with more videos to come from everyone after the show airs....

Louis CK: Unmasked

Thought I’d completely missed out on listening to Louis CK talk at length about his comedy career on XM’s Unmasked, but the nice people at A Special Thing have some tech skills and provided a linky link to listen to the hourlong chat, which takes kind of an Inside the Comic’s Studio approach. Some great tidbits about how Louis CK got his start in comedy as a teen in Boston and Cambridge, his stint writing for Conan’s first two years and how he developed the voice that has made him one of the best stand-ups working...

Jim Tavare on Wings: Turn back the clock!

Have to give credit here to comedian Mark Agee for his keen memory in recalling that Last Comic Standing finalist Jim Tavare has been on the NBC television network in primetime before…long before, in fact, appearing as himself on an episode of Wings. Specifically, the February 1992 episode, "Take My Life, Please," in which Crystal Bernard’s character attempts stand-up at a fictional Nantucket club. Oliver North is on this episode, too?! There’s a "hello, is this thing on!" utterance, and then Tavare’s routine, which includes jokes he told last night on the TV. How many of your jokes hold up after 16 years? Don’t let the hair fool you. Tavare’s introduction comes in at about the 4:44 mark on this clip…enjoy! And here was Tavare’s three-minute set shown last night on...

Last Comic Standing 6: The Final Five?

My sources tell me that from last night’s show, America will vote four out of the seven stand-ups into the final performance show to compete with Marcus for this season’s title of Last Comic Standing. So who will the final five cylons, er, comedians, be? Stay tuned. Next week’s episode will air July 31 from the Paris hotel/casino in Las Vegas. That should make for an interesting five-way face-off for the title, because the winner will be crowned on Aug. 7 (Summer Olympics coverage begins Aug. 8) in the finale that also is scheduled to feature appearances by the rest of the top 12, Jon Lovitz, Joel McHale, Gilbert Gottfried, Penn and Teller and last year’s LCS winner, Jon Reep. As a reminder, the winner gets $250,000, a new Honda Pilot, a talent deal at NBC, and an appearance (recurring, or not?) in the Jubilee! show in Vegas. Wait. Just, wait. Do you mean to tell me to tell you that the winner is going to be determined out of a single audience vote from the top 5? That is simply ridiculous! Ridiculous, I say. Ridiculous. Maybe cylons are in charge this...
