New video: What’s Doin? With Gabe & Jenny

Gabe & Jenny’s new video series is up at and at them with animation, their subversive wit and dialogue, and cameos with their comedy friends. Check out What’s Doin? on Super Deluxe (note to SD: update the Gabe & Jenny bio so people don’t try to find them and fail at Rififi, thanks). Episode one had cameos by Lang Fisher, Joe Mande and Noah Garfinkel. In episode two (below), you also get bits and bits from Bobby Tisdale, Greg Johnson, Max Silvestri, Roger...

Ben Kronberg on Kimmel tonight

Jimmy Kimmel‘s back with new episodes, and tonight welcomes comedian Ben Kronberg. Which reminds me, I haven’t seen Kronberg since last year around now in Aspen. Which reminds me, I just uploaded the photos from last year’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in a new album. Take a look back at the last big bash in Aspen. It’s on the left-hand column of my site. Here’s a tease: You can see Kronberg, mouth agape, about to snag a pretzel out of the air. Thrilling, I...

Who will play Obama on SNL?

Lorne Michaels made the interview rounds yesterday to promote the return of Saturday Night Live, and more than a couple of people wondered who’d play Barack Obama. Michaels wonders, too. He told the USA Today that he auditioned candidates last week, "and expects to pick from two or three late Thursday." I don’t get the sense that current cast member Kenan Thompson has an Obama impersonation, so it’s more likely for someone else to get the gig. But whom? Obama likes to say the election campaign is about the past vs. the future. So might Lorne Michaels’ decision. He could look to the recent past and invite Dean Edwards back into the fold. Edwards has plenty of experience with impersonations. Or Michaels could look to the future. Donald Glover, as a writer on 30 Rock, has an in with Tina Fey, and sketch/improv experience with UCB’s Derrick. Speaking of the New York branch of the UCB, there’s also Justin Purnell, who hosts the weekly School Night showcases. I also thought of my friend Baron Vaughn, who has acting chops to go with his stand-up delights (you can see him most Monday nights co-hosting Shoot The Messenger’s satirical morning show with Lizz Winstead), but when I reached him by phone, he was in St. Louis at the national NACA conference which I could’ve learned from reading his MySpace page. What?...

Casey Rose Wilson joins SNL

Casey Rose Wilson joins the cast of Saturday Night Live this week in the show’s return from the WGA strike. Lorne Michaels confirmed the hiring to the New York Post, saying (buried in a different angle on SNL): "I think you will love her." Well, what else would he say? How about this? According to IMDB, she has appeared on an episode of MTV’s Human Giant (UCB connection? check!) and had a small part in last year’s film, The Brothers Solomon (SNL connections? check!). Want to be her MySpace friend? Go on. Do it. Other fun facts about the new kid at SNL: She went to NYU. She has won an ECNY Award (with June Raphael) for best duo. They wrote "Rode Hard and Put Away Wet" together. Her most recent UCB efforts revolved around the troupe Sentimental Lady and the show "Worst Laid Plans." See more...
