NBC putting Kenan Thompson in primetime with The Kenan Show

Happy Birthday to Kenan Thompson!

Thompson, 41 today and the longest-tenured cast member ever on Saturday Night Live, will add a primetime sitcom to his resume. NBC has ordered The Kenan Show.

He began his TV career as a teenager with Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series, All That. Thompson joined SNL in 2003. Sixteen seasons later, he now has won an Emmy, and is currently filming a comedy competition series, Bring the Funny, premiering this summer on NBC.

The Kenan Show will make three NBC shows for Thompson. It’s written by Jackie Clarke, directed and executive produced by Chris Rock, with Thompson playing single dad to two daughters (Dani and Dannah Lockett), and dealing with a father-in-law played by Andy Garcia.

Thompson, Clarke and Rock EP with Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer for Broadway Video and Universal TV.
