Get ready for A Little Late with Lilly Singh, coming this September to NBC’s late-night lineup following The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Singh, an Indian-Canadian whose Superwoman channel on YouTube has 14 million subscribers, is replacing Carson Daly, who had hosted the 1:35 a.m. ET/PT slot since 2002 (although he mostly just anchored and didn’t conduct any of the interviews in recent years).
“An Indian-Canadian woman with her own late night show? Now that is a dream come true,” Singh said. “I’m thrilled to bring it to life on NBC, and I hope my parents consider this to be as exciting as a grandchild.”
This is huge news on several levels: Network TV hiring a woman to host a late-night talk show, that the woman isn’t white, and that she’s from a younger generation and from YouTube.
Singh officially announced her new gig on last night’s Tonight Show, and Fallon and Meyers both feted her as their new co-worker.
“Lilly is truly a star and we’re thrilled to welcome her to our NBC family,” said Doug Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Special Programs and Late Night, NBC Entertainment. “She is a multi-talented performer who will surely have a great rapport with not only all her guests but also with our devoted late-night audience. We can’t wait to get started.”
Congrats Lilly!
