Review: Jimmy Carr, “The Best of Ultimate Gold Greatest Hits” on Netflix

Jimmy Carr has crafted a career for himself as the savviest wordsmith. Self-aware of his offensiveness, he uses wordplay and timing more to demonstrate how clever he is than to make fun of some other person or thing or group. He’ll explain how it’s politically correct to make jokes if you’re directly involved in the joke, and immediately follow it up with witty perversion and depravity.

Is he trying to confess his own kinks or sickness, or is he just having a laugh?

You’re not meant to linger on the thought. Rather, Carr’s rapid-fire set just keeps delivering. Some jokes are sadistic. Some are sublime. Some are simply silly. Some manage to embody all of those elements at once.

And if you don’t care for one joke, there’s another hundred or so coming.
