R.I.P. Super Deluxe (2007-2008, 2015-2018)

Super Deluxe the website has died a second time.

Turner shuttered the company’s digital comedy pursuit, again; this time, on Oct. 19, 2018, in the wake of the big AT&T merger/acquisition of Time Warner. Super Deluxe shone as an early beacon for alt comedy in 2007 only to die out a year and a half later. It rose again a few years ago under new management, but essentially funding similar animated and live-action fun times from funny people.

“Turner is proud of the unique brand Super Deluxe has built over the past three years, and the cutting-edge content and innovations this incredible group of very talented people has made,” the company said in a statement. “However, there are now massive changes in the social and mobile-first ecosystem and duplication with other business units in our new WarnerMedia portfolio. Super Deluxe found inspiring ways of connecting with a new generation and many of their best practices will be adopted by other Turner properties as we redirect this investment back into our portfolio.”

The first iteration of Super Deluxe brought us The Maria Bamford Show, Tim and Eric Live, and cartoons from Brad Neely. All of that lived exclusively on the website.

For now, at least, the YouTube channel for Super Deluxe continues to exist, with 1.5 million subscribers, and series such as Vic Berger Presents…
