The Janelle James Comedy Festival will replace annual Eugene Mirman fest in Brooklyn

Eugene Mirman has long flown the coop from Park Slope, and now, so too has his eponymous comedy festival.

But he has bequeathed the Brooklyn comedy party to Janelle James. So, behold, the inaugural Janelle James Comedy Festival will take place Dec. 4-6 at The Bell House.

“I am thrilled to be part of the first annual Janelle James Comedy Festival,” Mirman said in announcing the news. “She’s so funny and it’s a joy to see the joke of a self-titled comedy festival live on and be reborn.”

Caroline Creaghead, a former co-producer of Mirman’s fest, will return to help James helm her own comedy confab. Tickets will go on sale in October, with lineups announced as they are confirmed.

James recently worked as a staff writer on The Rundown with Robin Thede, released her first album, Black and Mild, and appeared on the new installment of The Comedy Lineup on Netflix.
