Wil Sylvince’s inspirational boxing film, “I Am Maurice,” tags Michael Che, Damon Wayans Jr. as EPs

Wil Sylvince’s passion project outside of stand-up comedy has been almost a decade in the making.

Sylvince first showed me a short spec video back in 2010 of him as a boxer. Seven years later, his boxing film, I Am Maurice, has successfully raised more than $104,000 via Kickstarter from 641 donors.

Two of those donors, Michael Che and Damon Wayans Jr., have signed on to executive produce I Am Maurice to help get it into movie theaters and festivals. The film follows Maurice, a Haitian immigrant who comes to America after the earthquake of 2010 to fulfill his dream of being a boxer, despite all odds.

It looks great already.
