Less Opposition, more Klepper for Comedy Central in 2019

Forget The Opposition with Jordan Klepper.

Klepper would just as rather you did, as he and Comedy Central are ending that late-night talker to launch a different, new weekly show fronted by the comedian who broke through as a correspondent on The Daily Show.

The Opposition will air its final episode June 28, 2018.

Klepper will debut in 2019 in the 10 p.m. ET/PT hour.

The host’s own show was, like The Colbert Report before it, a full-on parody of right-wing blowhards. Enough of that, he said.

“I figured maybe, right now, the world could use one less asshole,” Klepper said.

Joining Klepper will be The Opposition executive producer Stuart Miller and co-executive producer Kim Gamble. All three will executive produce along with Trevor Noah, who co-created and executive produces The Opposition with Klepper and Miller. Other staffers also will likely transfer over. “I couldn’t be more proud of the staff that we have at The Opposition, and the new show is going to have people from The Opposition and the talent that we have there is going to help build this show as well,” Klepper said.

“The show was anticipating the Steve Bannons and Alex Joneses of the world to be front and center, and the truth is, it’s really Trump front and center,” Comedy Central President Kent Alterman said on the decision. “It was a combination of looking at how the landscape has changed a little bit differently from what we anticipated but also, we’ve never wavered on Jordan as talent, we’re such big believers in him, and we’ve been thinking where he is at his strongest. He is so strong in the field, being out in the real world with real people. He has done such fantastic work in his own special, Jordan Klepper Solves Gunsand as a correspondent on The Daily Show.
