Jimmy Fallon delivers graduation address to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

Jimmy Fallon didn’t surprise students in Parkland, Fla., on Sunday, so much as he made good on a promise he’d made to some of them following a meeting with them during the March For Our Lives protest for gun reform.

Fallon showed up on Sunday to deliver a special commencement address to the Class of 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Seventeen people – 14 students and three staff members – were fatally shot and 17 others were wounded during a shooting at the school by one of its students this Valentine’s Day. In the wake of that massacre, several students from the high school’s journalism program rallied the nation and organized multiple school walkouts, marches and protests.
