Netflix gets Fluffy, ordering a multi-cam sitcom plus two stand-up specials from Gabriel Iglesias

Move over Fluffy. Here comes Mr. Iglesias.

Netflix announced today it has ordered a 10-episode season of Mr. Iglesias, a new multi-cam sitcom starring stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias, as well as two comedy specials from him to come.

In his sitcom, Iglesias will star as a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater. He takes on teaching gifted but misfit kids to not only save them from being “counseled out” by a bully bureaucrat Assistant Principal, but also to help them unlock their full potential.

“When I was a kid, I wanted to be either a stand-up comedian or a teacher. Thanks to Netflix for supporting both of my career aspirations,” he said.

The first of his two stand-up specials will tape during his current world tour, which celebrates his 20th year in comedy. His most recent special, his sixth to date, premiered on Netflix in 2016.
