Pence parody book has a happy ending

When John Oliver’s announced his staff at HBO’s Last Week Tonight had made a parody of a children’s book about Vice President Mike Pence’s family rabbit, making the rabbit’s story about gay marriage instead, Oliver didn’t expect it’d actually sell as well as it did.

“A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” shot to the top of Amazon’s best-seller list.

“At that point, it’s getting ridiculous,” Oliver told Seth Meyers on Tuesday. In its first few days, the parody book sold more than 180,000 copies, “which is definitely more than we were prepared for.” They’re giving all the money to The Trevor Project and AIDS United.

Charlotte Pence, the VP’s daughter who wrote the original bunny book with illustrations by her mother, even bought a copy of the parody.

That said, the VP isn’t his daughter. And Oliver and Last Week Tonight shared plenty of concerns about him and his potential to become president.
