If you thought the Academy Awards telecast already was too long and overbudget, just imagine if the 90th annual Oscars had followed through with this music video pitch from The Lonely Island.
The song they wrote, “Why Not Me?”, would have included several stars from 2017’s box-office smashes.
But, as The Lonely Island fellas (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) wrote when releasing their demo to YouTube on Monday:
“We were asked to write a song for this year’s Academy Awards… Unfortunately, it wasn’t chosen because it was “financially and logistically impossible”, so for fun we thought we’d share the rough storyboards of what would have been a fully shot, star-studded music video of exorbitant cost. All vocals and visuals are temp, so please use your imagination and enjoy!”
Composer: Greg Chun
Demo singing by: Greg Chun, Baraka May, (and us)
