Netflix orders new animated series from BoJack Horseman producer starring Tiffany Haddish

The woman who designed the classic animal characters for BoJack Horseman is creating her own Netflix animated series, and Tiffany Haddish will voice the lead character for it.

Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of Tuca & Bertie, a comedy about two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building. Haddish will voice Tuca, “a cocky, care-free toucan” who’s friends and neighbors with Bertie, the daydreaming songbird.

Lisa Hanawalt created Tuca & Bertie. Hanawalt also is producer and production designer for BoJack Horseman, and drew up the animal characters for that cult hit. Her fellow BoJack cohorts Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen are executive-producing along with Haddish.

Haddish also will co-star in this year’s new TBS sitcom, The Last O.G., alongside Tracy Morgan.
