Review: Orny Adams, “More Than Loud” on Showtime

You may not have heard a lot about Orny Adams since Comedian came out some 15 years ago, although younger audiences have seen him on MTV’s Teen Wolf, and he has continued to headline clubs and theaters over the years, as well as multiple performances at Just For Laughs Montreal.

Adams talked to me about all of that for my podcast, Last Things First.

So maybe it’s time to give Orny another look-see and hear, right? His new hour, More Than Loud on Showtime, finds him growing into the ornery part of his Orny nature in his 40s, whether it’s railing against millennials or giving his take on interpersonal relationships.

As I wrote in my review for Decider:

The audience applauds many times throughout, and don’t blame them for it. You’d get caught up in the high-octane energy of an Adams rant. If Lewis Black’s hand-waving, stuttering rage gets people giggling, then Adams’s own grinning exasperation also evokes visceral responses from his audiences. When, more than halfway through his performance, Adams finds the mic stand come apart in his hands while slamming it into the floor, he cannot help but smile as the audience roars its approval.
