HBO has renewed Real Time with Bill Maher through 2020

With an Emmy nomination and lots of controversy, Bill Maher has won enough approval from HBO to garner him three more years of “Real Time” on Friday nights.

Already renewed for season 16 in 2018, Real Time with Bill Maher received an order for two additional seasons today by HBO. Maher also will get to produce and release his 11th stand-up special for HBO, plus a highlight-clip special celebrating the series as part of the deal.

“We are incredibly proud to continue our longstanding relationship with Bill Maher,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys. “As part of the HBO family for nearly 30 years, Bill’s distinctive point of view, coupled with his passion and commitment to insightful and informative entertainment, has remained unparalleled.”

“I’m extraordinarily grateful to HBO for one of the great relationships of my life, and I applaud their efforts to fight ageism by signing me to this extended deal,” Maher said.

Maher’s first HBO special aired back in 1989. He’s also an executive producer on VICE’s HBO series.

Real Time with Bill Maher airs Friday nights live at 10 p.m. Eastern.
