Certainly we’re past the peak of this comedy boom now that anyone can play pretend stand-up comedian and/or pretend heckler in a video game, right?
Comedy Night, an XBox game from 2012 that you may or may not remember, is back in a new virtual form, released this past week by Steam.
For $4.99, you get, according to the site’s description, the chance “to face off against other comedians in a live comedy show contest. See how your material holds up in the face of brutal audience members who can vote you off or the relentless smack talk from other performers.”
You can either perform or watch. The game says: “If you are an aspiring comedian this is a great sandbox to try out new material and perfect your show. If you can sing, see how a live audience responds in the open mic singing rooms or take other payers down in rap battle sessions.” If you watch: “Be part of the audience and decide which performers stay or go by voting them off the stage. Heckle players or encourage them as they do there best to entertain you.”
Here’s their trailer.

And here’s a video from one player that’s already racked up more than 2 million views since Saturday. Not sure how Cedric the Entertainer got in that picture, or how he’ll feel about it once he sees…
