“Meteor Shower,” Steve Martin’s newest play, will mark Broadway debuts for Amy Schumer and Keegan-Michael Key in 2017

Steve Martin’s newest play, “Meteor Shower,” will mark the Broadway debuts of comedians Amy Schumer and Keegan-Michael Key when it raises the curtain this November at the Booth Theatre.

Schumer said on Instagram: “I got to do a Steve Martin play in college and have loved him since I saw him as the waiter in the muppet movie. He is my friend and I just love him and can’t believe I get to be in his play on BROADWAY!!!”

Key told Twitter he “can’t wait to have this experience” with Schumer, Martin, Laura Benanti and Alan Tudyk.

To which Martin replied: “I am more thrilled than thrilled about this announcement. Thank you, Amy, Keegan-Michael, Laura, and Alan. An impeccable cast.”

“Meteor Shower” made its world premiere in San Diego before a run at the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, Conn.

Key is onstage in NYC this summer off-Broadway at the Public Theater’s version of “Hamlet” playing Horatio to Oscar Isaac’s Hamlet.

Benanti has won a Tony Award for her performance in “Gypsy” as well as previous nominations for “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” “Into the Woods” and “Swing!” Tudyk has performed on Broadway in “Spamalot,” “Prelude to a Kiss” and “Epic Proportions.”

The plot: “It’s a hot night in Ojai, California, and Corky (Schumer) and her husband Norm (Tudyk) are having another couple over for dinner. But Laura (Benanti) and Gerald (Key) aren’t looking for a casual evening of polite small talk with new friends. Eventually, the two couples find themselves in a marital free-fall matched in velocity and peril only by the smoldering space rocks tearing through the sky.”

Tony-winning director Jerry Zaks will direct. Previews begin Nov. 1, 2017, with an official opening Nov. 29. Tickets and info: https://www.meteoronbroadway.com/
