Karate Kid Ralph Macchio all grown up, reunited with “Cobra Kai” for YouTube Red

The O.G. Karate Kid may look ageless, but Ralph Macchio is going to find out what it’s like to be grown-up Daniel LaRusso soon enough, as YouTube Red has outbid other streaming platforms for a 10-episode half-hour series called Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai will pick up three decades after the events of the original Karate Kid movie.

Which culminated with this memorably infamous scene at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament:

In Cobra Kai, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) still hasn’t completely recovered from his embarrassing defeat, and hopes to find redemption by reopening the Cobra Kai dojo.

LaRusso (Macchio), meanwhile, is trying to figure out life without Mr. Miyagi.

Their paths cross once again.

Josh Heald, who wrote Hot Tub Time Machine (which featured Zabka, too), is writing and executive producing with Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar creators). Overbook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television Studios also are behind the reunion project for TV.
