2017 JFL Awards going to Jim Carrey, Trevor Noah, Mike Birbiglia, Ali Wong, Craig Ferguson and Kenya Barris

As part of its 35th edition, Just For Laughs Montreal will bestow special awards to Jim Carrey, Trevor Noah, Mike Birbiglia, Ali Wong, Craig Ferguson and Kenya Barris.

  • Generation Award: Jim Carrey
  • Comedy Person of the Year: Trevor Noah (in 2017, he’s released a Netflix special, Afraid of the Dark, and a new book, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, in addition to hosting The Daily Show on Comedy Central)
  • Stand-Up Comedian of the Year: Mike Birbiglia (currently touring his new show, “The New One,” after releasing a critically-acclaimed Netflix special this past year, Thank God For Jokes)
  • Breakout Comedy Star of the Year: Ali Wong (writer for Fresh Off The Boat, co-star on American Housewife, and touring stand-up star thanks to her 2016 Netflix special, Baby Cobra)
  • Alumni Tribute: Craig Ferguson
  • Comedy Writer of the Year: Kenya Barris (creator, black-ish)
