FOX to test out comedian-based daytime talk show “Punchline” during summer 2017

Daytime TV already has hourlong talk shows hosted by Ellen Degeneres and Steve Harvey, and panel discussions including the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Aisha Tyler and Sheryl Underwood.

But what about a half-hour whiz-bang of a show in which comedians just riff jokes about the day’s headlines?

That’s essentially the premise of Punchline, which will get a four-week trial run starting July 10, 2017, on FOX-owned stations.

The exact premise and logline?

  • Punchline is a half-hour, daily, current events driven show, hosted by Marc Istook, where two teams of comedians compete to come up with the best punchlines based on the days’ headlines. Creators Dave Noll and Cleve Keller will serve as executive producers on the program.

FOX Television Stations used this same summer testing process in years past for Wendy, the Wendy Williams show.
