Discovery reviving Cash Cab for new episodes, maybe without Ben Bailey behind the wheel

After several years without new episodes, Cash Cab is coming back to Discovery.

Perhaps Discovery just wised up, perhaps it’s the knowledge that a version of carpool karaoke also is becoming a new game show called Karaoke Showdown on Spike (soon to be Paramount TV).

Whatever the reason, the cable TV network announced the revival on Monday, with David Steinberg signed on as the new executive producer with All3Media’s Lion USA, Tony Tackaberry and Allison Corn. Norton Productions and Robyn Todd co-executive producing; Discovery’s John Slaughter also executive producing.

The premise? Same as before. One NYC yellow taxi not like the others. One Cash Cab offering passengers a chance to win cash prizes for answering trivia questions. The biggest difference? No regular host. Instead: “All new episodes will feature some of the top names in comedy, film and TV… who will even get behind the wheel of the cab itself, picking up lucky passengers.”

Cash Cab had aired for 10 seasons and is in syndication, winning three Daytime Emmy awards for the show and for its host, stand-up comedian Ben Bailey.

Bailey responded humorously enough, wondering why they hadn’t asked him back yet. He’s already received thousands of RTs and likes wondering the same thing.
