Checking in with Gabriel Iglesias three weeks after health problems postponed his Fluffymania world tour

A few months ago, Gabriel Iglesias was eagerly looking forward to 2017 as he planned to mark his 20th anniversary in stand-up comedy with a global “Fluffymania” tour.

But diabetes was taking its toll on Fluffy more than he thought, and he abruptly postponed the rest of his tour at the beginning of March.

As he wrote then…

To my fans:
I can not apologize enough for the sudden cancellation of recent shows. I’m dealing with some serious health and emotional issues that needed attention asap. Attempting to work through my problems was not going over and I had to stop everything b4 things got worse. Failing to make better choices and never taking a break in 20 years of intense touring has finally caught up to me. I need to get better b4 I can return to making people laugh and smile. I applaud my management for doing their best to protect me but my fans need to know the truth. Fluffy is fine but Gabriel needs help.

Over the course of 20 days of intense workouts with Ricky Funez of Ten Goose Boxing, Iglesias dropped 20 pounds, from 362 to 342. He thanked fans this week for their positive comments and support, which have boosted his morale and encouraged his recovery. Fluffy said of working with Funez: “I came to him a broken, humbled man after I walked away from the road in Feb and asked him for help. Not only has he kept me working out 5 days a week he has also become something I have needed for a long time… a friend away from show business. My physical health is well on its way to being where I want it to be as long as I stay the course. Emotionally I have some things I need to do for myself b4 I can be in a good place. I’m not ready to return to the comedy stage but I am ready to start being the great person I know I can be.”

Here’s his latest dispatch from Thursday:

No word yet on when Iglesias will get back onstage for comedy, but his TV series on Fuse will be back along with several webseries in July.

Keep up the good work, Fluffy!
