Just For Laughs now open to your 2017 pitches for TV and webseries

Montreal’s Just For Laughs comedy festival has now opened its annual call for submissions for you to come up and pitch your TV shows and webseries and industry executives this July.

As in past years, the Just For Laughs ComedyPRO conference is hosting the Stand Up & Pitch contest where finalists will deliver their pitches in front of live audiences for the chance to get development deals.

Stand Up & Pitch happens in conjunction with the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) and the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV), and past sessions have seen the launches of concepts including My 90 Year Old Roommate (CBC Comedy), Newborn Moms (CBC Comedy), Epic Studios (Maker Studios), and That’s My Bus (FOX).

“Bringing people together and creating new and fruitful relationships is one of ComedyPRO’s primary objectives,” says Paul Ronca, Director of Industry & Special Events Programming and Strategic Partner Development at Just For Laughs. “We’re thrilled to provide an open door to young creators wanting to be discovered, and for executives looking for the next hit series.”

The deadline to submit: May 8, 2017.

Open to comics, writers, producers and creators, Stand Up & Pitch offers two (2) pitch formats:

From Set to Screen: TV, OTT, SVOD and More presented with the NYTVF. Submissions are single or multi-camera scripted sit-coms, game shows, reality shows, variety, sketch or animation series intended for a half-hour per episode running time.

Beyond the Box: Play It Short presented with the IAWTV. Submissions are digital-first shows with episode lengths no greater than 15 minutes. Pitches can include scripted, animation, factual, variety and sketch – ideas aimed at YouTube or other digital platforms.

Just For Laughs ComedyPRO runs from July 26–29, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal, part of the 35th annual Just for Laughs Festival, which takes place from July 12–31, 2017.
